Digital Artist

All my life I have grown up surrounded by art and music. My dad has a Masters in Fine Arts from the Cincinnati Art Academy so he wanted to give me and my sister an early look into the world of Creativity.  Because he did this, I’ve been able to create a style that suits me and is totally different from his.  Many of my pieces reflect my inner emotions and thoughts.  Some come from dreams and some come from brainstorming.  One of my favorite pieces is a painting of Nietzche titled Deicide.  Deicide meaning to kill a god (A poem from Nietzche titled The Madman contains the line “God is dead and we have killed him”).  This line, while relating to his philosophical ideas, also relates to our time right now in the Pandemic, so to me it represents Chaos hidden behind a sophisticated disguise.  However, when someone looks at my art, I don’t want to tell them at first what it represents to me, I want to hear what it means to them because to me that is the most important part of interpreting art, starting out with a clean slate, forming ideas based on one’s own mind, not the artists.  Currently, I draw a lot of inspiration from Lee Bontecou, who’s abstract work is beyond anything I’ve ever seen, and I highly recommend checking her out.

My best works have taken around 2 days or so to complete, though one or two of my favorites took around 2 hours.  Sometimes I like to go into a piece with no idea of what I am going to make, and many times that leads to a piece I really enjoy, but I have scrapped quite a few.  Personally I love the digital art format, though some cool abstract work I’ve done has been by dripping different colored wax onto a canvas and blowing it into specific patterns.  Charcoal is a medium I am interested in, but I haven’t gotten a chance to really experiment with it yet.  Other than that I would love to experiment with any other medium just to see if it's something I would enjoy.

Ultimately I want to do something creative with my life. I have been playing drums for almost 7 years now, so I would love to do something with music, but I also love visual arts.  I think sound design would be an interesting path as well because it involves music as well as the atmospheric modifications of visual arts.

My name is Colin Emery and I am a Film Maker from Cincinnati, Ohio.  Though my primary focus is currently on films and videos, I do create other pieces of other mediums.  Feel free to take a look at my work.  My non-film pieces are listed under GALLERY, and my film projects are under FILM WORK.
